Through the tunnel by Dorris Lessings

SETTINGS
Place: It happened in a foreign country on a beach that Jerry and his mother visited during the holiday.
Time: On the first morning of the holiday.

PLOT
Through the tunnel is a story that took place in an undisclosed location on a beach resort where Jerry and his mother holidayed on various occassions. The story disclosed two beaches, the safe beach where his mother spends her days and then a wild bay, where jerry goes on the second day by himself. while he was swimming, Jerry saw a group of older boys who are playing together. The boys started playing a more dangerous game, whereby they dive into a blue sea between rough, pointed rocks. They dived and come up, they swam around and hauled themselves up. Jerry tried to follow them but he can not swim, he tried swimming whereby he holds his mouth and nose to prevent water from going inside. Her mother was always worried about him as he comes home with a nose bleed. With the help of practising Jerry finally get to know how to swim and he went back to his country a changed man.

MAIN CHARACTER
Jerry
  1. Is an eleven year old young english boy.
  2. He wanted to be considered as an adult so he made friends with some older boys at the beach.
  3. The older boys ignored him later after discovering that he is childish.
  4. He is a jealous kind of person as he was jealous of the older boys as he watches them swim through a rock in which there is a narrow underwater gap.
  5. he wanted to be equal with the older boys so he started practising swimming through the rock too.
